What Is Affieplaas Boerseep?
Traditional boerseep is a cold-process soap made from natural animal fat, water, and lye — the same formula used in South African homes for generations before synthetic detergents became the default. It is a genuine soap, not a detergent bar. Unlike most commercial soaps, it cleans without stripping the skin’s natural barrier, rinses completely clean, and leaves no residue.
The plain bar contains no fragrance, no essential oils, and no additives of any kind — which makes it the right choice for sensitive skin, children, and anyone who wants to know exactly what they are putting on their body and in their washing.
What It’s Used For
- Body wash — lathers well on skin, rinses clean, does not dry out or irritate. Suitable for sensitive skin and children.
- Hand washing — effective at cutting through grease and grime without drying the hands.
- Laundry by hand — works on collars, stains, and delicate fabrics. Rub directly onto the fabric and work in.
- Household cleaning — surfaces, dishes, general-purpose scrubbing. One bar does the whole house.
- Baby safe — no fragrance, no additives, nothing that should not be on a baby’s skin.
Why Beef Tallow?
Beef tallow has a fatty acid profile closely similar to the lipids in human skin, which is why tallow-based soap cleans without the harsh stripping effect of synthetic detergents — and produces a denser, more stable lather than vegetable-based soaps for laundry and household use.”
How to Use
- For body and hands — use like any bar soap. Lather between hands or directly on skin.
- For laundry — wet the fabric, rub the bar directly onto stains or collars, and work in with your fingers or a brush before rinsing.
- For household cleaning — lather onto a cloth or sponge and apply to the surface. Rinse clean.

Beef Tallow (Skin)
Tallow is incredibly similar to the chemistry of our own skin. So, when issues like dryness, acne, or eczema arise, tallow can soothe the skin and provide the exact mineral requirements needed for optimal healing. Beef tallow penetrates deeply into the skin, providing intense hydration. It restores and strengthens the skin’s natural protective barrier.
Aqua (Water)
Sodium Hydroxide
Sodium hydroxide, also known as caustic soda (Afrikaans: seepsoda), is a common ingredient in traditional soap making. It plays a crucial role in the soap making process. It’s a highly alkaline substance that triggers a reaction called saponification when mixed with fats or oils. Without sodium hydroxide, the saponification process wouldn’t occur, and you wouldn’t have soap! Once saponification is complete, the sodium is fully consumed in the reaction and completely safe to use on your skin.
